FOUNDER STORY

Emma Atigma Karmasun is the founder of ATIGMA, a Ghanaian clothing brand focused on creating versatile, well-tailored pieces for the modern woman. Her journey into fashion began long before the brand was established. She grew up in her mother’s sewing shop, where early exposure to garment construction sparked a deep and lasting passion for fashion. Although she later studied English Education at university, Emma always knew her true path lay in fashion. During her national service, she made a defining decision, saving her monthly allowance to fund the beginning of her brand. After completing her service, she rented a small one-bedroom apartment, where she lived and launched ATIGMA with her first industrial sewing machine.

At the same time, she enrolled in fashion school to refine her technical skills, graduating in 2021. In the years that followed, Emma worked independently, creating custom garments and reinvesting every profit back into the business. Over time, she expanded her operations, acquiring more machines, moving into a larger space, and building a small team of women who now work alongside her.

Today, ATIGMA operates as a growing studio, producing bespoke garments while gradually transitioning into ready-to-wear collections. The brand is driven by a vision to help women build intentional wardrobes, owning fewer, high-quality pieces that can be styled in multiple ways. Each design is created to feel comfortable, fit beautifully, and support women in their everyday lives. Beyond clothing, ATIGMA is committed to creating opportunities for women. Emma aims to continue growing the brand, expanding her team, and eventually providing training for young girls who want to learn sewing and build independent livelihoods
